Teaching Essentials for Healthy Living
I used to get frequent colds, but once I changed my diet, my immune system improved and I lost 15 pounds. Changing my diet so quickly, however, was very hard on my digestive system since my body was used to refined and processed foods.
My experiences inspired me to help others in making a more gradual shift to a healthier way of eating. Simply handing you a list of foods to avoid is not the answer! The idea is to gradually introduce new, healthier foods into the diet and eventually they will crowd out the unhealthy foods. Making changes slowly will be less of a shock to the system and much easier to maintain.
I continued to expand my connection with food by spending the next year working on an organic farm and studying vegetarian, health-supportive cooking.
This not only gave me more practical ways to help others, but gave me a strong appreciation for the connection between the food choices we make and how they affect the health of the environment as well as the health of our bodies.
